Excellence Through Service
Service is a core pillar of Kappa Kappa Psi, so our chapters frequently complete extraordinary service projects to support their bands, campuses, and communities. To raise awareness of the hundreds of service projects completed by Kappa Kappa Psi chapters each year, the National Service Spotlight program honors outstanding chapters and their Brothers “selected to serve” through public recognition and awards.
The Process
Submit a Project
Spring Deadline: January 1; Fall Deadline: July 1
Chapters are encouraged to submit information about one or more of their completed service projects that helped their bands, campuses, and communities. We encourage ALL chapters to submit a service project, no matter how big or small the project may be, as long as the project made a measurable positive impact! The link for National Service Spotlight submissions and details about required information can be found here.
Review by the National Programs Committee
After each submission period concludes, the National Programs Committee of Kappa Kappa Psi will review the National Service Spotlight submissions and spotlight up to six (6) outstanding service projects. These selected projects will represent Kappa Kappa Psi’s diverse chapters and their excellence in providing impactful service.
The committee uses the following criteria to supplement discussions for evaluating service project submissions:
-
Impact: How effective was the service project at executing its goals to make a positive impact on the service recipients?
The highest scoring projects provide proof of their service’s positive impact via service recipient testimonials like written or audio/video messages and measurable outcomes such as number of people served. Ask for documented feedback on your service project!
-
Chapter Engagement Level: How many Brothers of the Chapter were engaged in the execution of the service project (e.g., participation in the planning, implementation, and debrief phases)?
The highest scoring projects involve as much of their chapter as possible in each phase of their service project, which fosters responsibility and leadership in all Brothers.
-
External Engagement Level: How well were external stakeholders and volunteers engaged in the execution of the service project (e.g., participation in the planning, implementation, and debrief phases)?
Great service is executed when service recipients have a say in how they want to be helped. The highest scoring projects are mindful that others know their own needs best and should be included each phase of the project. Also, collaborating with external partners can multiply service impact and foster positive relationships.
-
Alignment with KKΨ Purposes: How many purposes does this service project align with?
The highest scoring projects clearly align their service projects with many of the purposes of the fraternity.
Why Submit
The selected chapters will be featured in spotlight posts on social media, earn certificates, garner recognition at fraternity events, and receive grants of $100 each.
All chapters that highlight one of their service project through submission to the National Service Spotlight program will receive credit for fulfilling the service project goal of the “Strive for Five” Chapter Crown Pearl Goals.
Up to two (2) chapters not spotlighted that period will be randomly selected to receive a $100 grant to support future chapter projects, materials, and events.
National Service Projects Database
Another important benefit of submitting projects to the National Service Spotlight program is to aid in the development of the National Service Projects Database. Information from each submission will become accessible to all Brothers in this database, which will contain important details for planning and executing a variety of service projects. We believe that sharing our service projects with each other will foster a sense of brotherhood, collaboration, and innovation among our chapters. We hope all chapters will learn new ideas, strategies, and techniques for service projects as they continue to Strive for the Highest!
