Kappa Kappa Psi Petitioning Process: The Beginning of a Journey
Thank you for your interest in starting a new chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi on your campus. Being a Brother of Kappa Kappa Psi can be a very rewarding part of your college experience.
Kappa Kappa Psi is the leading co-educational fraternity dedicated to promoting and advancing college and university bands through musicianship, leadership, and service. Our petitioning philosophy is to establish a lasting partnership with college/university band programs and campuses across the country to build successful chapters and a positive student experience.
Kappa Kappa Psi expressly prohibits discrimination as outlined in our policies. We are committed to a fraternity that provides equal access and opportunity to all eligible band members. We expect all brothers and those affiliated with the fraternity to be committed to this goal. Petitioning groups should be reflective of the band program.
The petitioning period is a probationary time of 2-3 months during which dedicated band students work together to obtain active chapter status while beginning their service, leadership, and support for their band program. The petitioning period serves the purpose of allowing petitioning group members to operate as a chapter, enabling the National Organization to assess the ability of the new group to sustain a continuing effort to support its band program and to maintain contact with the National Organization.
WHEN TO APPLY: Application Windows & Fees
Applications will only be accepted within the two “application windows” set by the National Council. Beginning August 2019, all petitioning group applications must be completed with a $150 non-refundable application fee, payable by check or money order only. Applications are only considered complete when the fee has been received.
For a Fall Petitioning Process, applications must best sent between February 1 and June 1. Applications are considered at the Summer National Council Meeting in July.
For a Spring Petitioning Process, applications must be sent between September 1 and December 1. Applications are considered at the Winter National Council Meeting in January.
