Strategic Plan
Revised January, 1998
1. INTRODUCTION
We realize that effective strategic planning can be a valuable tool in developing a road map for Kappa Kappa Psi's future. This realization led us to create this plan. Our vision, mission, core values, guiding principles, and strategic objectives are included in this plan.
2. PURPOSE
This plan defines Kappa Kappa Psi's strategy for creating a roadmap into the 21st century.
3. VISION STATEMENT
With a dedicated spirit of unity and cooperation, we are unequivocally committed to become the world standard of excellence for band fraternal organizations.
4. MISSION STATEMENT
Kappa Kappa Psi is a fraternal organization that promotes the advancement of college and university bands through dedicated service and support to bands; comprehensive education; leadership opportunities; and recognition; for the benefit of its members and society.
5. CORE VALUES
These core values are the heart and soul of our proud heritage and essential to our future success. They will help us design our future:
a. EXCELLENCE IN ALL WE DO.
We will strive for the highest level of achievement in every endeavor.
b. COMMITMENT TO SERVE.

6. GUIDING PRINCIPLES
These principles create a value system for Kappa Kappa Psi, and define our style:
a. TEAMWORK.
We will cooperate, communicate, and participate in the fullest spirit of
advancing the common objective of the team. We will do our best to
create and promote an atmosphere of trust so that the efforts of the team
will be optimized.
b. EMPOWERMENT.
We will strive to empower each individual commensurate with the level
of capability and responsibility. We define empowerment as giving a
person the authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to
accomplish the task, and providing the resources and support necessary for success.
c. RECOGNITION.
We will always strive to provide to each individual or team appropriate
recognition for exceptional accomplishment or achievement.
d. RESPECT.
We will always value each individual's contribution and never forget the
uniqueness that each person brings to Kappa Kappa Psi.
7. STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
The heart of Kappa Kappa Psi's strategic plan is reflected in strategic objectives on which we will focus during the coming years. Each objective described below reflects a critical piece of our corporate effort to improve our organization's success.
A. Strategic Objective 1: CREATE PROGRAMS THAT FULFILL OUR
FRATERNAL MISSION.

B. Strategic Objective 2: IMPROVE LEADERSHIP.

STRUCTURE BETWEEN KAPPA KAPPA
PSI AND TAU BETA SIGMA.
Areas of Strategic Focus:
(1) Rules of engagement
(2) Area of common intent
(3) Common resources
(4) Agreements for cooperative relations
(5) Team work
D. Strategic Objective 4: IMPROVE COMMUNICATION
THROUGHOUT KAPPA KAPPA PSI.
Areas of Strategic Focus:
(1) Connectivity
(2) Information management
E. Strategic Objective 5: IMPROVE SERVICE TO BANDS.
Areas of Strategic Focus:
(1) Projects
(2) Financial
(3) Role modeling
F. Strategic Objective 6: IMPROVE RELATIONSHIPS.
Areas of Strategic Focus:
(1) Communication
(2) Recognition
Operational goals in support of each Strategic Objective and associated Areas of Strategic Focus identified above are contained in a separate action plan being developed by the individual or group responsible for overseeing the Strategic Objective.
8. STRATEGIC REVIEW.
This plan will be reviewed regularly and updated semiannually at the Kappa Kappa Psi National Council Meeting to reflect the current status of Kappa Kappa Psi's strategic planning initiative. The updated plan will be published each year to outline our strategic direction for the benefit of all the membership to review, provide input and put into action the plan for the upcoming academic year.
9. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT.
Any suggestions or recommendations for improving this plan or Kappa Kappa Psi's strategic planning initiative should be directed to any Kappa Kappa Psi National Council member or the National Executive Director.
