KAPPA KAPPA PSI NATIONAL HONORARY BAND FRATERNITY

August 1, 2006

To the Members of the National Alumni Association:

Thank you for your dedication and service.

On July 20, 2006 during a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity, a decision was made to remove Kappa Kappa Psi affiliation from the National Alumni Association of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma.

This was a unanimous decision. The Board of Trustees of Kappa Kappa Psi did not come to this meeting in any frame of mind to make such a decision. However, after much discussion and debate, we decided that this was the best and proper thing to do for our members and for the future of our organization.

Again, we would like to thank the members of the National Alumni Association for everything they have dedicated to that organization. But this is not the end of a Kappa Kappa Psi alumni organization — but simply a restructuring of a separate organization that we hope to present by next summer’s national convention as part of a new Alumni Program.

Here are some of the reasons for our decision.

  1. We feel that the current structure does not meet the needs of our alumni.
  2. The feedback that we have received from our members over the last several years, leads us to believe that our members are confused about the nature of a joint organization, and many are hesitant to join.
  3. According to our constitutions, we have different definitions of life members and their privileges.
  4. We feel that the current structure does not allow us to realize the vision and the potential success that we have for our alumni.

The Board of Trustees of Kappa Kappa Psi believes that it is time to move in a new direction.

A Steering Committee is being created to begin the planning of a new Alumni Program for Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact me at mgolemo@iastate.edu.

We feel that this decision is in the best interest of Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity.

Fraternally,

Michael Golemo, Chair
Board of Trustees
Kappa Kappa Psi
