1. "Bandancing" by Jack Stamp to Receive Regional Premieres.
by Lt Col Alan Bonner, National Executive Director

The new
KKY & TBS Commissioned work, "Bandancing" by Jack Stamp continues a 50 year legacy of expanding the wind band literature. The World Premiere was presented July 22, 2003 at the KKPsi & TBS National Convention by the 2003 National Intercollegiate Band, Don Wilcox, Conductor, with the composer conducting.

To further promote the NIB, the work itself, the Commissioning Program and KKPsi & TBS, the National Councils have approved six regional premieres this fall. We wanted to pass the following schedule along to all members, chapters, and alumni in order that you might be able to hear one of the first performances of Dr. Stamp's outstanding new work!

2. Iota Omicron Chapter of KKY at Appalachian State University Commissions New Work in Honor of its 10th Anniversary.

The Headquarters has just received another new work for band for the archives. This is the second work received this month, so word is getting out that when KKPsi &/or TBS play an important role in the creation of new pieces for band, we want to have a copy of the score, parts & CD (if possible) for our archives.

The work is "Dances of Nahawand" by Scott R. Meister and it was commissioned in honor of the 10th Anniversary of the Iota Omicron Chapter of KKPsi at Appalachian State University. It is a fairly 'contemporary' work with extensive percussion! Thematic ideas tend to represent middle eastern flavors at first blush.

Wanted to share this with all of you to help continue to spread the word that we do seek out news of works that we sponsor in any way!

Thanks and congratulations to Iota Omicron.

The National Council is excited to welcome Wendy McCann and Cathy Miles to our TEAM! Wendy has accepted the Midwest District Counselor position and Cathy has accepted the Northeast District Counselor position.

Both Cathy and Wendy are Life Members of our sorority and have held various titles over the years. Cathy will bring much expertise to the counselor core. Wendy is new to her position, but looks forward to the challenge.

I hope you will join me in sending a huge welcome to these fine ladies. Reach Cathy at: CMiles@gilman.edu and Wendy at: wmccann@tbsigma.org. Again, thank you for being a part of TEAM TAU BETA SIGMA!!

4. Kappa Kappa Psi Announces New Midwest District Governor
by Michael Osborn, KKPsi National President

Brothers,

I wanted to let you all know that I've appointed Jim Hudson, Director of the University of Kansas Marching and Athletic Bands, at the University of Kansas to be the new Midwest District Governor. Professor Hudson has a strong background in KKPsi from Southwest Texas State and feels very strongly about what the Brotherhood can bring to a band program. He is excited about taking on this role.

Jim received his bachelors of music education from Northeast Missouri State University in 1980. He then began teaching at the junior high and high school levels, at Harmony community schools, Farmington, IA from 1980-1981, at Oskaloosa community schools, Oskaloosa, IA from 1981-1983, and at Oskaloosa Senior High School, Oskaloosa, IA from 1983-1990, where he was the director of bands and the music department chairman. Hudson then returned to school to obtain his masters of music in music education with a conducting emphasis from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. After receiving his master of music degree, Hudson accepted a position at Southwest Texas State University as the director of athletic bands. He held this position from 1992-1994, before being promoted to director of bands.

He has been published in several books and journals including chapters in Techniques of Marching Band Show Designing, by Dan Ryder, Arts Quest Process and Product, by J.B Neely and T.C. Williams, and an article in The Nebraska Music Educator: "The Last Decade of the John Philip Sousa Band and Their Travels in Nebraska." Additionally, Hudson has remained an active clinician and lecturer as well as a commissioned music arranger and drill designer for both high school and college marching bands throughout the country.

I know that you will share in my excitement in welcoming him to our leadership family. You can reach him easiest by e-mail at jhudson@ku.edu

Michael Osborn

5. Initiate Reports Due 30 Days after 3rd Degree!!!

We urge all chapters holding Membership Education Programs for Membership Candidates to be prompt in submitting the Initiate Report immediately following 3rd Degree! It's amazing how many chapters fail to take care of this important responsibility, and it's often not discovered for a year or two! That means chapters have individuals participating in all sorts of events who are not official Brothers or Sisters! Additionally, it costs the chapter a 25% Late Fee when you do try to catch up! If you don't get them reported, they can never be considered members of the Fraternity or Sorority!!

We've made it pretty simple to download a 'fill in the blanks' Initiate Registration Form from the National Website at
http://www.kkytbs.org/forms.html. If you have any problems with that form, give us a call at 800-543-6505.

Take care of your new Actives!!!
