1.
WELCOME BACK!
by Lt Col Alan Bonner, USAF
(ret.), National Executive Director
I know not all of you are in classes on this
date, but many are well into the fall semester!
To those of you who made it to Norfolk, VA for
the National Convention, it was great to see you
and the great work you did throughout the week.
The 2003 National Intercollegiate Band was
awesome, and congratulations on a terrific
performance of our newest KKPsi & TBS
Commissioned work, Jack Stamp's
"Bandancing". You will want to hear it
and play it... guaranteed!
Your Headquarters Staff has been hard at work on
all post convention issues, and preparing for the
Fall Packets, Chapter Personnel Reports, and the
Fall issue of The PODIUM (it goes to the
printer today! It should ship to you by first
week of October!).
We have a new staff member as of the end of
August, and I hope you will help us all welcome
Linda McMurtrey to the position of Membership
Services Coordinator. She has recently joined
forces with our Publications Manager, Mike
McMurtrey, in matrimony, and we offer our
congratulations to them both!
You should already have received the Chapter
Personnel Reports mailing to update and return
with your dues & fees. If you have not,
please contact the Headquarters immediately and
help us get your mailing address correct. We
already have received a few packets returned for
incorrect addresses!
We hope you all have a productive, healthy and
safe year in school, and we salute you all for
your desire to serve your university band
programs! BRAVO!
2. KKY Announces
William Johnson from Cal Poly as New Vice
President for Professional Relations
by Michael Osborn, National
President
Brothers,
It is with great pleasure that I announce to you
the appointment of Professor William Johnson as
the National Vice President for Professional
Relations for the 2003-2005 biennium.
Professor Johnson is the Director of Bands at
California Polytechnic State University, San Luis
Obispo, and sponsor of the Iota Pi Chapter at the
same school ( a recent Chapter Leadership Award
Recipient). He was an active member of the Alpha
Zeta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi at Indiana
University, and also served on the band staff at
the University of Michigan prior to arriving at
Cal Poly in 1966.
Professor Johnson brings to the National
Leadership of Kappa Kappa Psi over three decades
of experience as a collegiate band director. He
is a highly sought after clinician and a current
or past leader of several other organizations
which work in the area college bands, and college
band directors. It is also important to note that
Prof. Johnson is the first Kappa Kappa Psi
National Council Member to hail from the Western
District since Bob "Coach" Fleming
served as National President (1987-1989).
A more complete biography and contact information
can be found on the National Website as well as
in the upcoming issue of The PODIUM. I hope you
are as excited as your National Council is to
welcome Professor Johnson to the National Council
and hope you will take the opportunity to welcome
him as your Vice President for Professional
Relations!
AEA
