1. WELCOME
BACK!!!
On behalf of the National Councils and the HQs
Staff, we all hope you had a fun-filled,
productive, & profitable summer. Many of you
are already into the fall semester with classes,
marching band, football games, and exams, and we
certainly hope that all of you are re-energizing
your chapters for another great year of service.
There is
much to look forward to as we head toward the
2001 National Convention in Corpus Christi and
the 2001 National Intercollegiate Band (start
planning to participate in these two important
national programs!).
This is the first NewsNotes
On-Line issue for the second academic year, and
we will strive to make it an integral source of
information for everyone. Please watch for each
issue, both direct and on the HQ's Website. Now,
to some news...
2. NEED
BANNERS???
We have established an agreement with a company
that produces excellent banners and you can
design your own from KKPsi & TBS templates on
their website. BrittenMedia is the company and
you can find them at URL: http://
www.bannergalaxy.com. If you would like to review the
available templates or if your chapter needs a
banner, first select "Partners" and for
KKPsi: enter the username:
"kappakappapsi" and password:
119911psxh; for TBS: enter the username:
"taubetasigma" and password:
110747dlmb.
At that point you'll discover several templates
from which you can design your own banner at a
reasonable cost. Hope you find these helpful!
3. NATIONAL HQ HOMEPAGE CHANGES
As you have already noticed by now, the
Headquarters Website is sporting a complete new
look! Thanks to webmanager-guru, Mark Bradbourne
for his superb assistance in giving the website a
very sharp appearance and we hope an even easier
way to navigate through the hundreds of pages of
information! With as much data as we have on our
site, we do find errors or omissions
occasionally, and if you discover any problems,
please let our Webmaster, Mike McMurtrey, know
via email at PODIUM@kkytbs.org.
4. WEB-BASED SERVICES CONTINUE TO EXPAND
Has your chapter claimed its own email account???
Please do so, as we would like to include your
chapter's email address in the Chapter Directory.
All chapter accounts have been pre-created.
Chapter officers simply have to log on and check
the mail. Please remind them to change the
passwords once they have logged in. Also, they
may set up forwarding to forward to another email
account. For that matter, if you've not signed up
for your personal account at http://www.kkpsi.org or http://www.tbsigma.org, we encourage you to do so
ASAP!
Inbox, Inc, our web based service, has
implemented POP3 support for kkpsi.org and
tbsigma.org which enables you to use email
software like Outlook Express to check their
email in addition to the web browser. If you wish
to get your mail in that manner, simply follow
the instructions on www.kkpsi.org or www.tbsigma.org under the POP3 link..
And finally, they are creating mailing lists for
each chapter. Upon completion we will announce
this to all members. That will enable each
chapter president to send info to all members of
his/her chapter with one button! More details to
follow...
4. NEW NATIONAL CHAPTER FIELD
REPRESENTATIVES ON THE ROAD
Derrick Mills, KKPsi CFR & Dollie McDonald,
TBSigma CFR have just begun their first road
trip, visiting chapters in the NCD and MW
Districts. If you would like to know more about
their schedules and how you might better prepare
for one of their visits to your chapter, please
access their respective webpages at:http://www.kkytbs.org/kky/kcfr.html & http://www.kkytbs.org/tbs/tcfr.htm. I encourage you all to
take advantage of these two exceptional
representatives of the Fraternity & Sorority.
They are on your campus to help you be successful
and to be a voice for you back to the National
Councils. Please give them your fullest
cooperation so that they may truly do a great job
for you!

Developing History of Commissions by KKPsi &
TBS: In the last NewsNotes On-Line (Volume
1, Number 5 , April 19, 2000) I asked for your
assistance to gather information as to past
commissioning projects of published works that
your chapters and/or districts may have
accomplished. Each chapter should appoint a
project chairman to move this forward to ensure
that all Districts and Chapters research their
records, talk to their sponsors & directors,
contact alumni, and even seek out retired band
faculty to determine what pieces (if any) have
been commissioned.
To keep a consistent format, provide your
information as follows:
I. Group responsible for the Commission (District
or Chapter)
1. Name of piece
2. Composer
3. Year Commissioned
4. Date premiered (if known)
5. Premiere performance by (if known)
6. Publisher
7. Reason for commission (if known)
8. Any other relevant information
This will take some time to develop, but I do
feel it would be an important demonstration to
directors around the nation, as to the
significance of our contribution to band programs
and literature.
District leaders, please ask one of your officers
to take on this project as far as developing
information from your district, ensuring all
chapters in your district are aware of this
request for information, and then, ensure it is
forwarded directly to the National Executive
Director via email at hqned@kkytbs.org or via US Postal Service
to PO Box 849, Stillwater, OK, 74076.
DISTRICT LEADERS: PLEASE BE SURE TO FORWARD
THIS NEWSLETTER TO YOUR RESPECTIVE CHAPTERS TO
THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY!
